Then Tragedy Struck
After their basement remodel was 100% complete and passed all final permit inspections, we thought the hard part was over. We couldn’t be more wrong.
Mother Nature had its own plan for Sheena and Jason’s basement. Just a few days later, a massive monsoon came through the Chicago area and wreaked havoc on many homes — including Sheena and Jason’s.
Their brand-new basement completely flooded, ruining the walls and carpentry that were JUST installed. Instead of stressing Sheena and Jason out even more, we got right to work finding a solution.
While we did everything right and upheld our end of the bargain, we just didn’t feel good about charging Sheena and Jason to restore their basement, considering they had already paid us in full, and this wasn’t anyone’s fault.
We took it upon ourselves to replace all of the walls and carpentry in their basement completely free of charge, simply because it was the right thing to do. Sure, we could have gone through the tedious insurance claim process or reached out to the City Of Chicago, which is responsible for improper street drainage that caused the flooding in the first place, we knew the fastest solution for our customer was to bite the bullet and repair the damage ourselves out of pocket.
For us, it was a simple decision-making process — do what’s right for the customer.
