Some kitchen remodels are fairly straightforward, but others…can be quite a challenge. This particular Chicago area remodeling project was definitely in the latter category.
Not only did we have to remodel the entire first floor of Brent’s nearly 100-year-old home, but we even had to renovate the back porch and move the kitchen to the other side of the home!
Since it was an older home, we knew it had the potential to be tricky. Fortunately, we love a challenge and managed to pull off this first floor home remodel with flying colors.
MOVING A Kitchen Was No Easy Feat
“Our project involved everything… we moved the kitchen from one side of our house to the other which involved a full gut rehab, new framing, some structural work, windows and siding, kitchen utilities, and the all the normal kitchen finishes and details.”

One of the biggest challenges for this remodel was moving the kitchen from one side of the home to another. A lot of remodelers wouldn’t even ATTEMPT something like that, but our skilled designers and experienced installers can.
How did we pull off such a complicated transformation? We had to do MAJOR structural work, plumbing, electrical modifications, and a bunch of other meticulous work in order to bring this stunning kitchen remodel to life.
Change Orders And Structural Obstacles ALMOST Threw Us Off

As with any whole floor remodel of this scope, there were bound to be some unexpected obstacles and a change order or two.
In that regard, this remodeling project did not disappoint. We did have to change our game plan more than once, when we discovered structural, electrical, and plumbing work we’d have to do in order to complete this custom kitchen remodel.
What’s more, we didn’t discover this until AFTER we had begun the demolition process. While it all turned out PERFECTLY, the road to get there was a little rocky. We even had to include an additional two weeks onto our original timeframe, in order to complete the project.
